PROJECT SCOPE | 2 WEEKS |
PROJECT TYPE | PERSONAL |
I started with the idea of our increasing appetite for media consumption. The industry simply can’t keep up.
Mixed media has been on my mind for a long time now and I wanted to try some things out. One of them is based on a technique I used a while back that involved mapping the colours of photos.
This is the first experiment that really started this whole thing (it evolves slowly over time):
The video above would be the foundation for this project. I continued making simple black and white animations, here are some examples:
Some are better than others but in the end I used most of them. Some of them are not recognizable though because they weren’t as strong as I had hoped. These are warped with digital effects to make other interesting images, for example this one:
This
Became this
And this
Became this
And the latter was used for some nice flashes, while looking like an array of pixels.
I picked appropriate music. These clips were combined in an edit accompanied by a sped up techno track which I did not make myself. This gives the feeling of incomprehensible media consumption (at least that’s my intention). I really wanted a section where the whole thing was going in slow-motion, to let the viewer calm down a bit. This also enlarges the contrast between the different speeds.
The whole thing is also looped so in theory you can watch this all day if you’re one of those media-hungry persons.
